o What is an internship?
An internship is an opportunity. More narrowly defined, an internship is a temporary position within a business that focuses on on-the-job training. In the time spent interning, a participant has the ability to get a feel for the business environment with a first-hand look at the daily operations of a successful enterprise.
o Who should look for an internship?
Anyone over 18 years old! If you are young and enthusiastic with an interest in learning more about the workplace environment, an internship is for you.
o What will I get out of my internship?
You will receive invaluable insight on what it is like to enter the “real world.” Additionally, by interning abroad, you will develop an ability to communicate effectively in a language that in many cases is foreign to your own. The ability to independently thrive in another country is certainly something to speak to in future interviews with potential employers!
o Will I get college credit for the internship?
Contact your educational institution in order to find out what it takes to receive credit for your internship. DiscoverSevilla will do whatever it can to assist you in preparing necessary documentation.
o Do I have to be in college to apply for an internship?
NO. Anyone over 18 years old is eligible to apply for an internship through DiscoverSevilla.
o Do I get paid for my internship?
Most internships are unpaid positions, their value lying in the experience gained.
o What happens with my 250€ deposit?
Your deposit will be applied to the total cost of the program tuition. If DiscoverSevilla is unable to offer you at least one company for job placement, 100% of your deposit will be returned.
o Where will I live in Spain? Who will I live with?
There are several options for housing placement through the DiscoverSevilla Internship Program. Click on the ¨What´s Included” link to your left for a comprehensive explanation on what your options are.
o Can I request to live with someone?
If you are planning on traveling with someone, you can request to be placed in a home stay or residencia with that person, if you so choose. Please note, however that although we will try our best to accommodate your request, DiscoverSevilla can not guarantee joint placement in a common location.
o How far will I live from my internship? How will I get there?
Typically, housing placement is within a 30-minute walk of a participant’s place of work. We have pre-arranged bike rentals for you, so you can travel via bici if you so choose—very Sevillan of you! Also, bus and above-ground metro travel in and around Sevilla is available, so transportation is easy regardless.
o How many hours will I have to work per day/week?
DiscoverSevilla requires a 20-hour work week, allocated at your own convenience. Expected days of work are Monday thru Thursday, freeing up your weekend for travel and such. If you would like to work more hours/days than the minimum, you are certainly welcome to do so, but it is to be arranged with your individual company.
o Will I have to speak exclusively in Spanish?
For the most part, Spanish will be spoken exclusively. Bettering your Spanish is one of our main objectives! Depending on placement, however, some employers may speak English, but don’t count on it. No need to worry- after your 2-week intensive course you will speak enough to get by, and hopefully by the end of your time in Spain you will be comfortable enough with Spanish to consider yourself fluent!
o What if I don’t like my internship?
In extreme cases, DiscoverSevilla will do its best to accommodate potential change requests. It is important to note, however, that DiscoverSevilla can only guarantee placement with your initial company. If no alternative work placement is found, tuition is not refundable.
o What if you do not find work placement for me within Sevilla?
If DiscoverSevilla can not provide you with at least one opportunity for placement, you will receive 100% of your deposit back.
o When do the internships occur?
Whenever you want! DiscoverSevilla offers year-round placement, so just give us at least 2 months prior notice that you are interested in interning in Sevilla and we will do our best to accommodate you.
o Is there an opportunity for full-time placement after my internship?
Of course! However, full-time placement is between you and your employer. We hope the global networking you do during your time working in Sevilla will open countless doors in the future!
