Fall Semester
Coming to Sevilla in the fall, September to December?
The fall in Sevilla tends to go from hot to cool. It many go as high as 90 degree Fahrenheit to low 60 degrees. You will probably only need warmer clothes when traveling around however, from September to November it still tends to be very hot. Therefore try to pack more for warmer temperatures. Bring shorts, skirts, dresses, jeans or nice pants and several T-shirts. Sun-glasses sandals and closed toe shoes as the basic essentials because you can purchase more items here. Bringing a jacket or sweater with you would not be a bad idea however, there are many designer stores in Seville like H&M, Bershka and Zara, where you can purchase cheap and fashionable items of clothing, and you would not want to have to leave anything behind because you do not have enough room in your suitcase. Our advice is to pack light for warm fall temperatures.
Bring light linen pajamas and house-shoes (slippers). Spanish families never walk in the house without house-shoes, so it is necessary to walk around the house with slippers or flip flops. They will look at you weird if you do not wear them! If you do not have them, don’t worry, you can get them in Sevilla for no more than 5€
If you are planning on going out to discover Sevilla’s best night clubs, bars, or outdoor festivals make sure you bring more than sport clothes. The girls wear dressy tops with skirts or long pants with heels (wedges due to the pavement). Men typically wear nice fitted jeans and a button down shirt with dressy shoes (no sneakers). Spanish people dress up really nice when going out and there are always bouncers at the bars and the clubs, so if you do not dress up nice enough you will not be able to get in anywhere
During the day, when going to the university, people dress more casually, even though Spanish girls dress nicely all day long (you don’t have to worry about it). Bring comfortable clothes.
Only bring enough toiletries to hold you over until you get settled with your host family or apartment. It is unnecessary to pack more than you need due, to weight in your luggage, as well as, all of these things can be purchased easily in stores around Sevilla.
When walking from your home to your university and back, you will realize that no one wears a backpack. Typically, messenger bags are more fashionable then backpacks. Everyone uses different bags to carry books and necessities. If you would like to feel European when living in Spain, the first thing you have to do is leave your backpack at home and buy a bag in Zara, H&M, Mango, or El Corte Ingles.
If you would like to learn Spanish faster, try not to listen to your Ipod while walking from place to place. You can hear Spanish everywhere you go, and if you listen to your music instead, it will take longer to learn (unless you listen to a Spanish radio station…then that is great!). Leave your Ipod for when you work out or run around! You can buy a radio to listen to Spanish radio stations for 15€ anywhere. Another great way to enhance your knowledge in Spanish language is watching television or movies in Spanish. Finding a television station in English will not be beneficial to you or common to find in Sevilla.
Working out: if you normally work out in a gym or you just like to run outdoors, then do not forget all your sport clothes! T-shirts, sports shoes, sweatpants, etc. There are plenty of gymnasiums in the city.
There are plenty of shops in Sevilla if you want to look more European: there are H&M, Zara, Mango, Pull and Bear, Bershka and the outlet factories outside of the city, where you can buy clothes from other seasons even cheaper. The shops do not close for siesta. Only small business close for siesta (normally from 2pm to 5:00pm).
Sevilla has a lot of shoes stores within the city! Pack only the minimal amount of shoes because plenty can be purchased here. If you are into that, then you are coming to the right place.
